People talking about all the world’s oldest problems in all its newest terminologies

Recently in a Terence McKenna lecture from the 1990s I heard him say “many people say the younger generation is gender confused, technology dependent, etc etc”.

I realized this is a gripe as old as time. There were probably mongols on the steppe in 1250 saying this about their children because they were using newfangled crossbows instead of the recurve bows of their parents. It’s like Ralph Bashki said “why do we need another cat chasing a mouse in 1965?” I was driving last year and saw a billboard for a new Tom and jerry movie LAST YEAR. I know every generation needs its philosophers and pastors to preach perennial wisdom, but where are the new ideas?

People talking about the same things for 6000 years, over and over again

Hindu mythology - “The thing that creates man “name and form”

Language, limitations of materialism… we’re still talking about Wittgenstein like these ideas are new

Cmon… that’s what genesis is about

“First there was the word”

Nothing new under the sun

You see what I mean?

And everyone speculating that “Ancient people are more sophisticated than we think.” I Recently read a book called Hamlets mill from 1969 espousing the exact same thing. We’ve been talking in circles since 1969?? “Old and boring and nothing new” in the words of Bakshi. Where are the new ideas? Nobody wants to take a risk anymore. Where is the passion? Where is the sacrifice?

Is it possible to glimpse the palimpsest and comprehend eternal truth?

See it for what it is - Not writing but re-writing
