THE BEST TOOL IS THE ONE YOURE HOLDING IN YOUR HAND

when I’m painting, I’m not thinking. The more you think, the less you’re doing. Putting a lot of thought into painting is bad advice. Painting is painting, not thinking. Paint often. The more often you paint, the better you become at avoiding the need to think. When you start to paint, put aside the ideas of how well you are painting, and just paint. The best images in the world are not created by thinking. They are produced by doing. They come out of the muse, not from thought. When artists stop relying on inspiration, they start relying on knowledge and skill, which is often an illusion. The most fruitful way to make paintings is to forget about all those annoying questions about technique and craft, and just find a bit of joy in making images.
